LION’S MINERALISATION

Advanced Exploration Techniques

Advanced Exploration Techniques

Lion Resources license is located in the central zone of the Lufilian Arc in the Pre-Karoo rocks of the Katanga Supergroup.

Licence

Advanced Exploration Techniques

The outcrop is generally absent from the licence though a number of trenches and pits on the licence have shown that the licence area is underlain by the Neo-Proterozoic sedimentary units of the Lower Kundelunga Group comprising shales, siltstones, sandstones and mixtite (Figure 5.2).

Mwale (2011) States

Mwale (2011) states “The pits have shown that the first top layer of about 1.5 metres is covered by overburden (yellow clay soil) and underlain by brown coloured shale intruded by quartz veins”.

Gold

Emeralds

On a regional level, the Lion license is well located with respect to the areas of known mineralization and mining within Zambia as shown in Figure 5.3 overleaf, specifically with respect to precious metals, gemstones, and ferrous metals including manganese.

Gold, copper, and silver mineralization associated with quartz veining is present in a number of areas in the license areas having previously been trenched and in one location mined (illegally).

Emeralds

Emeralds

Emeralds

Emerald occurrences and alluvial emeralds have been reported from two locations on the licence.

As outcrop is scarce and the area is covered by metres-thick ferrasols, trenching/pitting to expose fresh bedrock is required. Mineralization discovered to date is the result of pitting soil geochemical anomalies in the 1960’s through to 1990’s. Mwale (2011) gives a brief outline of the various exploration programmes and companies active in the general area of the licence. The only mined gold- copper on the licence was discovered by radiometrics, ground magnetics and soil geochemistry in the 2000’s (Mwale 2011).

Strength

Emeralds

Emeralds

Strength, ensuring beauty that lasts. Bluish-green beauty, these stones deliver timeless quality.  Mohs Hardness Scale, the emerald is just behind the ruby, the sapphire’s 9, and the diamond’s 10.
