
Mr. Sokoni is an experienced, successful professional with a strong sales and marketing background, covering a broad range of industries, including textiles, Caterpillar heavy equipment, industrial, automotive, freight, industry sectors. His business background provided him with a leadership profile, and he was selected for various roles in the Lusaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI), Chairing the Amenities & Social Services Sub-Committee, and was elected to the executive committee of the LCCI. Malama was subsequently appointed by the Minister of Commerce & Industry to serve on the "Zambia/Zimbabwe" Joint Permanent Commission; the appointment was notable for being the first appointment from outside government.
Mr. Sokoni’s passion for contributing to improving the welfare of his country and local communities led him to become a founding member of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD). He is currently serving as Deputy National Chairman of the MMD and acting National Chairman, following the passing of the Chairman. Malama was also a member of the Association of Round Tables in Zambia, and has served as Convenor of several committees before being elected Chairman of Lusaka Round Table No. X1. Mr. Sokoni remains active in business and government circles, and he is currently Board Chairman of Munikashi Energy Resources Ltd, a start-up company looking at establishing a major sugar cane production industry, with an emphasis on producing ethanol, sugar, bagasse, and other agricultural by-products.
